Tim Sherwood told Premier League Productions that Harry Kane’s interview after Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Manchester City proves that the players have been ‘brainwashed’ by Jose Mourinho.
The former Spurs boss couldn’t believe what he was hearing from the English hitman because he was talking about defensive ‘mid-blocks’ after they topped the Premier League table.
It was a Mourinho masterclass in North London, with the efficient Tottenham keeping Pep Guardiola’s attacking players at bay throughout the game.
When Sherwood heard Kane talk about the defensive side of Tottenham’s game and how they were sitting deep, the ex-midfielder thinks it proves the players are buying into what Mourino wants even if it doesn’t look pleasant on the eye.
“That [interview] was a great indication that Jose Mourinho has brainwashed these group of players,” said Sherwood. “He’s talking mid-blocks. I have never heard it come out of his mouth ‘mid-block’!
“But they have bought into the philosophy of Jose Mourinho. Mid-block means defend deep, counter-attack when you can, but just no gaps or no spaces in between [defence and midfield] and they didn’t have any spaces.
“Yes, they had a lot of shots from outside of the box but they never had many clear cut chances. We are talking about a side with the firewpower of Manchester City.
“Jose has brainwashed these group of guys to believe him. Do you know what helps? Winning football matches! The fans wouldn’t like it [defensive football]. That’s the only way they like it [because they are top of the table]. It’s fine margins.”

It could be argued that Kane has not only been Tottenham’s best player this season but the Premier League’s best player.
From deadly sharp-shooter to the precision passer, Kane has also added this knack of turning over possession, winning tackles and channeling his inner Eric Dier when dropping deep and defending.
He is doing absolutely everything on the pitch and he could rightly be deemed the ‘complete player’, at this moment in time.
