Newcastle United were quiet towards the end of the international transfer window, with Steve Bruce unable to bring in new recruits.

The likes of Christian Atsu, Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet and Achraf Lazaar failed to move on, meaning Newcastle didn’t have the room to bring in late signings.

There could still be one addition to come though, as Newcastle are pushing for Bradley Cross to join on a free transfer.

The Chronicle report that Newcastle are in talks to sign Cross, having taken the centre back on trial recently.

Cross, 19, was recently with Schalke, but is now searching for a new club – and Newcastle may have unearthed a gem in the South African defender.

Back in March, the Daily Mail reported that a host of Premier League scouts were tracking Cross, having spotted his talent over in Germany.

Now available for absolutely nothing, Newcastle look set to beat all the other interested Premier League sides to signing Cross.

He would likely be a signing for the development squad given his age, but the teenager has the potential to become a first-team player at St James’ Park with the right coaching.

Newcastle haven’t got a deal done yet, but with talks underway, the Magpies may be on the verge of beating various Premier League clubs to a bargain signing even with the window closed.
