Leeds United defender Paudie O’Connor has been lauded by the Bradford City fans on social media.

Blackpool's Paudie O'Connor during the FA Cup Third Round match between Blackpool and Arsenal at Bloomfield Road on January 5, 2019 in Blackpool, United Kingdom.

With Paudie O’Connor making just one appearance for Bradford since the end of January heading into this weekend, it appeared to be a safe bet to suggest that the Leeds-owned youngster may have too much work to do to turn his Elland Road career around.

O’Connor was one of the academy prospects that gave Whites fans something to be positive about towards the end of last season. But he headed out on loan to Blackpool in the summer, before joining their League One rivals in January as game-time became harder to come by at Bloomfield Road.

With numerous under-23 starlets stepping up for Marcelo Bielsa’s men this term, O’Connor became something of a forgotten man at Leeds. And it appeared to be a similar situation at Valley Parade, as he did not play a single minute in February and almost the entirety of March.

But he kept his place in the starting lineup for Saturday’s home clash against Doncaster. And it appears that he has won a lot of Bradford supporters round with an outstanding performance in the 1-0 defeat.

The game was settled by fellow Leeds loanee Mallik Wilks, but O’Connor’s display was lauded as he kept John Marquis quiet throughout the contest. And his performance has left many scratching their heads.

O’Connor has often been the player to miss out with Bradford only able to name five of their six loanees in a matchday lineup. And after his display on Saturday, many believe that he should now be one of the first names on the teamsheet – with one fan comparing the youngster with Fabio Cannavaro.
