The American is his nation’s number one ahead of the Copa America this summer.

Aston Villa struggled in what was a poor campaign in 2015-16. They finished bottom of the Premier League, well behind their nearest rivals, after a shocking campaign.
Plenty of the Villa players did not come out of the season with any credit – including goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

The USA international struggled throughout the campaign and at times found himself out of the first-team to the advantage of back-up stopper Mark Bunn.
This summer however Guzan is set to be the USMNT’s number one stopper at the Copa America ahead of departing Everton goalie Tim Howard – who also had a poor season in the Premier League.

Speaking to MLS Soccer this week he made it clear that as soon as the final whistle went in Aston Villa’s final game of their dreadful season his attention immediately turned to the USA:
For me, it was obviously a disappointing season.
“But as soon as the last game finished, as soon as I was on the plane to Miami for the start of the camp, my focus was only on this summer and being a part of this team.”

Villa fans might suggest his attention was never on Villa this term, although that would be harsh on the struggling American.
Hopefully he can find some good form in a home Copa America this summer and get back to his best with Aston Villa in the Championship next season.
