Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has told The Daily Mail that he has sent a text message to Arsenal star Matt Turner ahead of the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Turner, who is the second-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal at the moment behind England international Aaron Ramsdale, will play for the USA in the Qatar World Cup.

The 28-year-old, who cost the Gunners £7.5 million when they signed him from Major League Soccer club New England Revolution (The Sun), is the number one goalkeeper for the USA now.

The Americans have been placed in Group B along with Iran, England and Wales.

Former USA goalkeeper Friedel said: “I’ve spoken to a few of the USA coaching staff in Qatar and I sent goalkeeper Matt Turner a text saying ‘good luck’. Right now, the mood in camp is excellent from what I hear. It sounds really good.”

Starring in Qatar

Matt Turner has yet to make a big impression at Arsenal, and maybe doing well at the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar will help him.

The goalkeeper has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for the Gunners this season, but the USA international has played four times in the UEFA Europa League.

If Turner does well for the USA in Qatar, then it will make a very positive impression on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and showshim that he can trust the 28-year-old in Premier League matches.
