Dundee midfielder Scott Allan has told The Scottish Sun that he is used to abuse from Rangers fans – and he’s happy to have beaten his boyhood club on Friday.

The Gers travelled to Dens Park on Friday night in search of a response having lost 2-0 at home to Hamilton in their previous game, but they endured a nightmare in Dundee.

Graeme Murty’s backline failed to deal with Jon Aurtenetxe’s free kick, with the loose ball falling to Mark O’Hara to smash into the bottom corner of the net.

Hesitant defending from Dundee allowed Rangers to hit back immediately, as Josh Windass slammed home from the edge of the box, only for Scott Allan to pick out O’Hara for his second and the winner late on.

Another defeat for Rangers means Murty is looking increasingly unlikely to land the vacant managerial positions at Ibrox, and Friday’s result was particularly fascinating for Dundee ace Allan.

The midfielder – on loan from Celtic – saw a 2015 move from Hibernian to Rangers fall through, and instead joined bitter rivals Celtic, despite growing up supporting Rangers.

Allan unsurprisingly received abuse from Rangers fans when he came on as a substitute on Friday, and he has told The Scottish Sun that he is used to the criticism from fans of the club he grew up supporting.

Allan added that he was delighted to get his own back on Rangers with the assist for the winner, and suggested that he just has to live with the boos and jeers from Gers fans after his controversial 2015 move.

“It’s part and parcel now of everyday life — even when I’m about Glasgow,” said Allan. “I still get pelters there as well so it was nothing I wasn’t expecting. The hassle is part of football and you learn to live with it. It’s fine. Should it be part of football? It is in this country, so it is what it is.”

“I was delighted that within two minutes I managed my own reaction! I don’t know if it motivates me, but it gives you a more enjoyable reaction when you win after it. For me I’m just happy to be back fit helping the boys to a win,” he added.
