The Glasgow Rangers legend plays for Killie and thinks his team could pip both the Ibrox side and the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title.
Former Glasgow Rangers ace Kris Boyd is confident that Kilmarnock, his current side, could potentially pip his former employers and Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Killie have been the 2018-19 campaign’s surprise package, sitting third in the table with 41 points from their 21 games so far, which includes a tally of 12 wins.
Rangers sit second in the standings, just one point ahead, while the previously indomitable Celtic are level on points with Steven Gerrard’s side, albeit top on goal difference.
In what is arguably one of the most open Scottish top-flight campaigns in recent history, Aberdeen are also still in the hunt, their 39 points keeping them well within reach of the top three.
Boyd is a legend at Ibrox, with a tally of 115 goals and 27 assists from just 212 appearances for Rangers over two spells, according to Transfermarkt.
That said, his allegiance is clearly with his current side and, speaking to Sky Sports News, he talked up Kilmarnock’s hopes of springing a huge title upset ahead of the Old Firm.
“We think we can go all the way, we’ve shown that over the calendar year it’s not just a fluke,” the 35-year-old said.
“Since the manager came in we’ve picked up more points than any other team in the league so we do know that on our day if we play to our best we can cause teams problems.
“We know it’s going to be very difficult to challenge Rangers and Celtic but if we can get in there and get in the mix with Aberdeen then hopefully we can stay there.”
With Scottish professional football now in its winter break, Kilmarnock will have to wait until January 23 before they return to league action – against none other than Rangers.
