Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass has been linked with moves away from Ibrox.
Rangers have appointed Liverpool legend and former England international midfielder Gerrard as their new manager.
The former Los Angeles Galaxy star has already signed a number of players for Rangers, including Ovie Ejaria (on loan) and Connor Goldson.
Kilmarnock striker Boyd, who had two separate spells at Rangers and was the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership this past season with 18 goals, has backed Gerrard to get the best out of Windass.
Boyd told The Scottish Sun about Windass: “I think we saw glimpses of what Josh can do but with better players around him he can go to another level.
“The thing he has to do is make sure he does it on a consistent basis. When you see his performances, I have a belief he can reach the top.
“He is starting to mature as well. He was a young boy when he came up here and got involved in things he probably shouldn’t have but we have all been there.”
Quality midfielder
Windass has had issues with consistency, but there is no doubt that the 24-year-old is a very talented and promising midfielder.
The former Accrington Stanley star can score goals and create chances, and he will be an important player for Rangers next season – if he stays at Ibrox.
According to The Scottish Sun, Premier League duo Cardiff City and Burnley want to secure the services of the 24-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window in a £3 million deal.
Windass scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 30 Scottish Premiership appearances for Rangers this past season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
