Euro 2020 has been one of the most enjoyable international tournaments in a long time (particularly if you’re English) but after ITV’s commentary team was confirmed for Sunday’s final between England and Italy – the absence of Rangers legend Ally McCoist has fans distraught.

McCoist and Rangers TV pundit Clive Tyldesley had been, comfortably, the best commentary duo of the competition and with ITV instead opting for the joyless pairing of Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon to cover the Euro 2020 final, fans aren’t happy.

The BBC’s pairing isn’t much better with Guy Mowbray and Jermain Jenas on the mic.

Emma Hayes, Gary Neville and Ashley Cole will join hosts Mark Pougatch and Seema Jaswal as England look to end their 55-year wait to add to their solitary major trophy at international level.

With England in their first final since 1966, the game is likely to draw a record audience for both the BBC and ITV but the absence of McCoist is disappointing.

The Rangers icon has consistently been one of the most entertaining and informative co-commentators at Euro 2020 (and previous major tournaments) while Lee Dixon does his best attempt to bore viewers to sleep.

While McCoist himself might not be too enamoured of the idea of sitting in a packed Wembley as England (potentially) win Euro 2020, if Gareth Southgate’s side DO win it, nobody should hold their breath waiting for the sort of iconic line that accompanied England’s last major success.

Instead of being at Wembley, McCoist will be watching at home like the rest of us – and fans can’t believe ITV have opted not to use him.

Here are some of the comments from fans wanting the Rangers legend and Clive Tyldesley covering England’s Euro 2020 final clash with Italy:
