‘Christy’, starring Sydney Sweeney, did not make much of an impression at the box office.

The 28-year-old actress, known for her roles in the film Anyone But You and the hit TV series Euphoria and The White Lotus, portrayed former boxing world champion Christy Martin in the biopic that premiered on Friday.

Sweeney reportedly trained three hours a day and gained 35 pounds for the role, even mentioning she would consider a charity fight down the line.

But despite her commitment, the film struggled to draw audiences and fell short commercially.

‘Christy’ brought in $1.3M during its opening weekend at the box office.

For comparison, ‘Predator: Badlands’ pulled in $40 million across North America and $80 million globally.

The film had a wide release, playing in 2,011 theaters with an average of just $649 per location.

According to Box Office Mojo, ‘Christy’ now holds the 10th spot among the worst wide openings ever for a new release, sitting behind titles like ‘Dune: Part One’ (IMAX) and ‘Scoob!’

Sweeney has had three films this year open below $2 million, including ‘Eden’ and ‘Americana.’

Christy Martin’s first reaction to biopic left her in tears

Christy Martin’s influence on women’s boxing is hard to overstate.

She was managed by Don King, the iconic boxing promoter, and in 1996 fought on the undercard of a Mike Tyson pay-per-view. Shortly after, she became the first female boxer featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

On Ring Champs Podcast, Martin spoke about her initial reaction when she first heard that Hollywood wanted to make a film about her life.

“There’s one point that I did cry.

“And it was, it has nothing to do with anything.

“It was just a moment when I guess it sunk into me.

“It all came around to me. Like, this is really happening, and these are my guys I’m watching on the on the [screen].

“They were portraying my guys that traveled with me all those fights, and they were there for me,” she revealed.
