Lee Bowyer has told Charlton Athletic’s official website that he has been in contact with Leeds United’s staff and found out that they were back in training on Monday, after their promotion was confirmed last weekend.

Leeds will make their return to Premier League for the first time since 2004 next season.

Bowyer was, of course, playing for Leeds the last time they were playing in the top flight.

However, the Charlton boss is now desperate to topple of his former side – as he looks to keep the Addicks up.

Charlton need to win to be assured of keeping their Championship status next season.

But Bowyer knows that Leeds won’t be going easy on his side, even though they have very little to play for.

“Leeds were at it [against Derby county], their energy levels were through the roof and they haven’t come off it,” Bowyer said.

“It will be the same on Wednesday. The manager is a winner and has a high demand on his players and we saw that on Sunday.

“I have a good relationship with Leeds, I’ll always have a special place in my heart for them, but they’re professionals.

“I asked what their manager drinks just as a congratulations for after the game and asked if they were off [on Monday], but they weren’t. They were back in training.

“They said to get him a bottle of Malbec! I went to the local wine place and asked what they could recommend because I wouldn’t know!

“It will be something I give to him after the game because I think it’s the right thing to do. He’s been outstanding for that football club and worked miracles.”

Leeds actually go into their game against Charlton tomorrow having won their last five matches in succession.

Bowyer’s side, meanwhile, have failed to win any of their last six matches – and are one of seven teams who could still go down on the final day of the season.
