The Bournemouth ace would be a useful addition to the Newcastle United squad this summer.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is determined to add quality to his squad before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month, after it being quite clear to see that the Toon need to vastly improve if they are to enjoy a successful Premier League campaign this season.
One area in particular where the Spaniard will want to improve is in the attacking department, with his side becoming too reliant on Dwight Gayle for goals.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are close to wrapping up a £5 million deal for Stoke City forward Joselu, but could there be a better option out there for the Tyneside outfit?
One option for them is Bournemouth’s Benik Afobe, who has fallen down the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium, especially after the arrival of Jermain Defoe on the south coast.
The 24-year-old hitman proved his goalscoring credentials during his spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers when he scored 22 goals in 46 league outings, and his pacey, direct style of play would be ideal for how Rafa sets up his Magpies side.
Not only is he lethal when presented with a goalscoring opportunity, but he is also a willing runner, with his high stamina levels enabling him to make selfless runs into the channels for the entirety of the 90 minutes.
Afobe possesses all of the attributes needed to play the lone striker role, but would be equally apt at playing as part of a two pronged attack, alongside Dwight Gayle through the middle.
And whilst Joselu possesses obvious qualities of his own, Afobe would be by far the better option for the Toon, and embodies everything that Rafa needs in his side at the moment.
