Bournemouth host Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.

Saturday afternoon sees Bournemouth hosting Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium.

The two sides have had vastly different starts to the campaign, sitting at opposite ends of the table.

Eddie Howe’s side have started strongly, picking up 12 points from their first ten games to sit tenth in the table, just four points outside the top six.

In contrast, David Moyes’ team have failed to pick up a win in their first ten games and sit bottom of the table, eight points from safety.

Key players in either side are strikers Callum Wilson and Jermain Defoe, with both relied upon to get the goals for their teams.

So who has had the better season so far? We decided to take a look at the stats to find out.

As it turns out it is Defoe, who came out on top in six of the eight areas we analysed.

So far this season he has registered more shots per game, 2.9 compared to two, and more shots on target, 0.9 compared to 0.7.

He has enjoyed a better shooting accuracy, 17% compared to 15% and as a result registered more goals, five compared to three.

Neither has managed to register an assist, although Wilson has posted more key passes per game than Defoe.

It is the Sunderland man who comes out on top in terms of passing, though; registering more accurate passes per game and a better passing accuracy so far.

A win for the 34-year-old, then, and Sunderland will be hoping he comes out on top again this weekend as they chase their first win of the season.
