Bournemouth have backed striker Jermain Defoe to ‘bang em’ in up in Scotland’ after he completed his 18-month loan deal to Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

The Gers confirmed on their official website on Sunday afternoon that the 36-year-old has joined the club on loan from the Premier League side subject to international clearance.

For the Cherries this season, Defoe only managed 21 minutes on the field of play in the league as star striker Callum Wilson continues to knock in the goals.

Nonetheless, Rangers supporters will love the message Defoe’s parent club sent via their official Twitter account after his move to Ibrox was confirmed.

Defoe will play in Scotland’s top tier for the first time in his career having previously represented a plethora of clubs in England’s top-flight.

During his time in the Premier League, Defoe played for the likes of Tottenham Hotspurs, West Ham United and Portsmouth – he racked up 496 appearances, netting a mammoth 163 goals in the process.

Now, the former England man will be looking to make his mark at Ibrox where his former national teammate Steven Gerrard is hoping to lift the Scottish Premiership title.

Prior to the winter break, the Gers beat their Old Firm rivals Celtic 1-0 to move level on points with Brendan Rodgers side as Defoe’s acquisition has now blown the title race wide open.
