Jamie Carragher has shared that he decided to turn up to Goodison Park ‘a bit earlier’ during Everton’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday because he was ‘bound to get stick’ if he went a little later, as he told Instagram Live.
The Liverpool legend was on commentary duty for yesterday’s game, and when going up to the gantry, he was providing his followers with footage of him walking up towards his position.
It needs to be remembered that Carragher is a boyhood Everton fan, but it’s obvious that his Liverpool past makes him as unpopular as Steven Gerrard on the blue half of Merseyside.
Even when Carragher was coming through as a young footballer, he had to hide a very small tattoo on his arm, which was related to Everton.
Nonetheless, this is what Carragher said when going up to his commentary box early to avoid supporters yesterday.
“With the crowd back in, I am coming in a bit earlier,” said Carragher.
“Are there any supporters in yet? (Pans camera across Goodison Park). It goes to show how early I have come in to miss the support. I was bound to get stick off the Blues, aren’t I?”

It was a defeat for the Toffees yesterday in what was a disappointing attacking performance from Rafa Benitez’s side.
They are missing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, which is showing out on the pitch because Alex Iwobi and Salomon Rondon just aren’t up to that quality.
The Toffees are pushing for Europe this season, and whilst they lost their 100% home record to the Hammers, they should be pretty pleased with their start.
It will be interesting to see how the Everton fans react when the club go through a bad period, because there was a lot of mixed emotions when Benitez was handed the keys to the the club’s doors.
And a certain Merseyside derby awaits Everton at the end of next month, if Benitez’s side are still going strong when Liverpool visit and they win that fixture, then the hope of what can be achieved this season might go up a notch.
