Paul Merson has questioned whether Liverpool will ‘cash-in’ on Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah following the arrival of Luis Diaz, as he asked on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports.

The Sky pundit claimed that Liverpool purchased Diaz for the reason that either Salah or Mane will leave – although, he did make it clear that he would keep them both if it was up to him.

There has been more spotlight on someone like Salah compared to Mane and his contract situation on Merseyside.

But Diaz plays out on Mane’s side and the duo are the ones competing for that starting spot when everyone is fit.

So, could the £34 million signing from Southampton (BBC Sport) now find himself heading for the exit door in the near future, this is what Merson had to say.

“Do you think him (Diaz) doing that well gives them the option to cash-in on a Mane or a Salah,” asked Merson.

Clinton Morrison responded: “Not Salah. I like Sadio. I feel Mane has got loads to give to Liverpool.”

Merson then added: “I think this lad was bought for that reason. I think that’s why they went early doors on him.

“For me, I keep them both and give them whatever they wanted. It has taken Liverpool this long to be where they are and they are there now.”

Whatever happens in the summer will happen, but one thing is for sure, Liverpool have one of the most frightening forward lines in world football.

The Reds are in every competition so far and they have a chance to add a domestic trophy to their name when they lock horns with Chelsea in the League Cup final at Wembley – and possibly more this season.

Given that Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are doubts, Jurgen Klopp may well just throw Diaz into the starting fold.

The Colombian has fitted in at Anfield like he has been at the club for years, from his all-action nature, natural ability on the ball and goalscoring runs off it.

Everything Diaz has done during his short time at the club has explained why Klopp was so keen to sign him.
