Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Petr Cech has been discussing some of his career regrets and his time at Arsenal.

Cech is one of the most decorated goalkeepers of the 21st century. He won countless trophies at Chelsea, and yet, he says that his biggest career regret is failing to win the league with Arsenal.

Indeed, the goalkeeper says that he thinks about coming close to the 2015/16 title with Arsenal quite a lot, claiming that the Gunners’ failure that season truly bothers him.

Cech’s Arsenal regret

The former Chelsea man spoke about his regrets with Arsenal.

“You know, the one dream that avoided me was winning the league with Arsenal, and that’s the one, every time I think about it. That year we were chasing Leicester and we were so close. There were a couple of games where we dropped points in February and that’s where Leicester got the advantage. That’s the one that bothers me and the Europa League final bothers me,” Cech said.

Wasn’t theirs to lose

It’s often claimed that Arsenal should’ve won the 2015/16 title, but the reality is that it was never truly theirs to lose.

Indeed, while the Gunners finished second that season, they spent a long time trailing Tottenham Hotspur, and if it weren’t for a late-season collapse from Spurs, they would’ve finished third.

There wasn’t really a point in that season that Arsenal looked like bona fide title contenders.

Yes, they were top of the league in mid-January, but the league was so compact at the top-end that year that they were fourth by the beginning of February.

Arsenal were never truly title favourites at any point that season.
