The manager of a rumoured Leeds United target expects the player to remain with his team after the transfer deadline.

The Stuttgart forward Nicolas Gonzalez was one of several Argentine footballers being ‘analysed’ by Leeds earlier this summer, according to Ole.

It was around that time that Gonzalez expressed a desire to leave the German side, for whom he scored 15 goals and assisted four from predominantly wide roles last season.

But when asked about the 22-year-old’s future at the weekend, Pellegrino Matarazzo told Tag24: “He’s fully integrated with us.

“I assume that he will still be with us for the first league game and also after October 5th.”

Materazzo’s plans could be aided by a hip injury suffered by Gonzalez in the friendly against Strasbourg on Saturday, which Stuttgart say will keep out for between four and six weeks.

Leeds have yet to strengthen in Gonzalez’s position this summer – at senior level, at least – although they have struck fresh deals for Helder Costa and Jack Harrison after their loan spells last season.

Gonzalez, who moved to Stuttgart from Argentinos Juniors for around £7.6m two years ago, remains under contract for another three seasons.

Leeds fans – who would you like the Whites to sign this summer?
