Borussia Monchengladbach have reportedly placed a club-record €45m (£39m) asking price for 21-year-old star talent Manu Kone, with Liverpool one of the many clubs interested in signing the youngster.

According to Sport Bild via GGFN, the Reds could have to beat a transfer record set by Arsenal to bring Kone to Anfield, with the Gunners paying a reported £35m back in 2016 for Granit Xhaka according to BBC Sport, a deal that remains Gladbach’s highest-ever sale as per Transfermarkt.

A regular for Gladbach and France’s U-21s, Kone is a player who could fetch the Bundesliga side quite the transfer fee in 2023 with the German giants expected to cash in on the midfielder, and according to Sky Sports News, Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in the French talent.

With Newcastle also keen on the midfielder, there is already some strong competition for Kone heading into the January transfer window. Yet for Liverpool, they could consider themselves heavy favourites to land the 21-year-old if they are to push hard enough in the upcoming winter market.

Indeed, Liverpool are on the hunt for a midfielder to add to their ranks in January, and whilst Kone will now come at a hefty price, signing the Gladbach youngster would be quite an exciting move for the Reds. Especially with many fans eager for Jurgen Klopp to bolster the squad in 2023.

Although Jude Bellingham remains the number one target for the majority of the Liverpool fanbase, Kone would be an excellent addition in January as both a stop-gap as well as a future option for the Reds, with the midfielder a talent who can offer a lot to an ageing midfield.

Liverpool’s squad is set for another few years of transition, and after the arrival of Darwin Nunez in the summer, Kone would be a good next young addition to the squad in January, even with Gladbach demanding as much as £39m for the midfielder.

After all, the youngster has proven to be quite the prospect in the Bundesliga for one of the division’s biggest clubs. And for Liverpool, a talent like Kone in the midfield will be an inspired signing that could boost the entire team for the better, as well as give fans some belief over the future.
