Crystal Palace are among a host of clubs interested in bringing former Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle back to the Premier League this summer, according to a report from Calciomercato, and here is why they should go all out to make sure he is donning the Eagles’ blue and red stripes next term.
Palace managed to secure a comfortable position in the league table this season, having been touted as relegation favourites under the winless run of Frank de Boer. Thankfully Roy Hodgson – with the help of Wilfried Zaha returning from injury – found a winning formula and impressively finished in 11th place.
There is no doubting that Zaha’s return was vital in Palace’s mid-season resurgence, highlighting the need for attacking reinforcements next term.
Andre Schurrle, 27, struggled for game-time last season making as few as 16 appearances under the tutelage of Peter Stoger and, as a result, the German has been left off his nation’s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
Game-time will be an absolute priority for the forward come next season then, and Palace can certainly offer that. There is not much risk on Palace’s end either, they would be receiving a Premier League proven player – having scored 14 goals in 65 games for Chelsea.
The prospect of Schurrle and Zaha spearheading the attack is a frightening prospect for any Premier League defence, and Palace need to ensure they have depth in-case their top scorer should face another lengthy stint away from the pitch.
