The Bundesliga leaders were heavily beaten by Spurs at Wembley in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg.

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a magical Champions League night on Wednesday as they ran out comprehensive 3-0 winners over Borussia Dortmund in their last-16 first leg.
The Bundesliga leaders came to Wembley Stadium and, ahead of kickoff, there was tension in the air given not only the magnitude of the game but how high calibre the opponents were.
However, Spurs ended up putting Dortmund to the sword as Son Heung-min, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente scored three unanswered goals to put them in pole position for the next round.
Since the game, reports emerged in the German press claiming that the Dortmund players’ focus ahead of the game at Wembley was disrupted by the visit of a hairdresser to the team’s hotel a day before the match.
This led to further questions in the national media about the squad’s attention on the match, but speaking to German newspaper BILD, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke dismissed the haircuts as a reason for the defeat, although he admitted the pre-match activity of the squad would be reviewed.

“It certainly has no influence on a team’s performance. There are sporting reasons for our defeat, and we need to analyse them,” he said. “It’s clear the defeat also leads to a critical media view of the hairdresser’s visit. And that’s why [sporting director] Michael Zorc and [squad manager] Sebastian Kehl will review this with the players.”
Spurs will travel to the Westfalenstadion on March 5 bidding to see the tie out away in the second leg and reach the quarters.
