Slowly but surely, Bryan Gil is finding his feet at Tottenham Hotspur – and Antonio Conte might’ve just saved his career in North London.

The 21-year-old Spaniard was signed by Fabio Paratici a few months prior to Conte’s arrival in 2021.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia and there’s signs that he’s winning Conte’s trust this season.

His first two Premier League starts to date have both come in the 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Sunday and the 4-0 win at Crystal Palace last night, where he set up Harry Kane’s second.

And speaking to Football London afterwards, Conte lavished praise on the former Sevilla winger, claiming that he was ‘born to play football’.

He said: “It was really important, you know about Bryan Gil we are talking about a player who was born to play football. He understands football quickly. He’s so clever, so intelligent to understand the situation. Then you know this league is difficult, because you have to be good in quality and be fast and to have good endurance and he has this type of quality.”

Question is, does Gil want to continue improving at Tottenham?

It has been reported in recent weeks that the player himself was keen to leave Conte’s side, with Estadio Deportivo claiming that Gil himself would favour a return to Spain.

And with speculation linking him with various moves to La Liga, it wouldn’t be a major surprise if it materialised again this January.

However, his first-team prospects are much better now than they were 12 months ago and maybe, just maybe, the player is keen to stay.

Confidence is a massive thing for any footballer, but particularly one still finding his feet in English football.

And after what Conte has just done, praise him so highly in public, well it could give Gil a massive boost and be the turning point in his Tottenham career.
