Some Rangers fans are calling on the club to sign Lawrence Shankland after his goal against them today.

The Dundee United hitman was on the scoresheet as the Premiership new boys beat an under-strength Gers side 4-1 this afternoon.

Shankland was released by Rangers as a youngster and remains a lifelong fan of the Ibrox club.

In recent transfer windows, the 24-year-old has been linked with a return to Auchenhowie, but nothing materialised.

Here’s how Rangers fans reacted to his goal on Twitter today:

Bringing him back to Ibrox really wouldn’t be a bad move, if we’re honest.

Jermain Defoe is 38 and Alfredo Morelos is liable to go off the boil in a big way, as he showed last season by scoring 28 of his 29 goals during the first half of the campaign.

Shankland was a phenom in the lower leagues, scoring 74 league goals during his past three seasons – one of which was in League One – and he could well take the top flight by storm, too.
