Everton reportedly wanted to sign Borja Iglesias in January.
Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias has told AS that he doesn’t see himself leaving the club this summer amid interest from Everton.
Iglesias, 26, hit 23 goals whilst on loan at Real Zaragoza last season, and left parent club Celta Vigo for a move to Espanyol last summer.
So far, the target man has been sensational for Espanyol, hitting 13 goals in 28 games whilst also picking up two assists with the Barcelona-based side.
Iglesias has impressed with his power and aerial ability, and his exploits with Espanyol are now seemingly attracting major interest.
Marca reported in January that Everton were prepared to pay the €28million (£24.5million) release clause in the striker’s contract, only for Iglesias to snub a move in favour of staying put.
Everton certainly need a striker this summer, and Iglesias may still be a target for the Toffees as a result – but they will face an uphill task in trying to convince him.
Iglesias has suggested that he is happy at Espanyol and isn’t at all thinking about leaving, meaning Everton may need to look elsewhere for a new striker.
“Yes, I see myself here, there is no reason to think otherwise,” said Iglesias. “Little more can be said, I am happy and I have a contract,” he added.
