Emma Raducanu has confirmed she has parted ways with her coach Francis Roig following her Australian Open exit.

Raducanu was the 28th seed at the Australian Open, where she started with a win over Mananchaya Sawangkaew.

The British number one won 6-4, 6-1, but suffered a second round defeat to Anastasia Potapova, losing 7-6(7-3), 6-2.

Raducanu has since decided to split with Roig, with the pair having only started their partnership in August.

Boris Becker questions Emma Raducanu’s split with Francis Roig

Raducanu thanked the Spaniard for their ultimately brief time together, with their split having caused quite the stir.

Offering his take on the decision, six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker simply commented on X: “Why?”

It will be a view shared by many within tennis, with Raducanu now remarkably seeking the 10th coach of her career.

The Briton, who is only 23 years old, has constantly switched coaches, with various injury issues having also disrupted her promising career.

Her latest coach, Roig, previously worked with ATP legend Rafael Nadal, helping the Spaniard win 16 of his 22 Grand Slam titles.

What is Emma Raducanu’s WTA Tour history?

That promising career peaked when Raducanu superbly won the US Open, lifting the trophy in New York in 2021.

She defeated fellow rising star Leylah Fernandez in the final, securing a 6-4, 6-3 victory at Flushing Meadows.

But that is extraordinarily her only career title on the WTA Tour, where she is currently ranked in 29th place.

Raducanu once climbed as high as world number 10, with her career figures reading 148 wins, 86 losses, and $6,070,403 in prize money.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the one-time Grand Slam champion, but stability on the coaching front would certainly be a smart place to start.

Intriguingly, her fellow Briton and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray arguably represents a very suitable candidate for the role.
