Everton and Southampton may have been given a boost in their pursuit of Aaron Mooy, with the Manchester Evening News reporting Manchester City will not activate their buy-back clause for the Huddersfield Town midfielder.
Upon selling Mooy to the Terriers last summer for £10m, an option was included in the deal that allowed City to re-sign the 27-year-old for £20m should they choose to.
After an impressive season at the John Smith’s Stadium in 2017/18 and then at the World Cup in Russia – despite Australia’s elimination without winning a game – it was rumoured the reigning Premier League champions would take this up.

Yet even though the Citizens are in the market for a central midfield player, it seems than they are focusing their attention on signing Jorginho from Napoli rather than bringing Mooy back to the Etihad Stadium.
This will be greeted in positive fashion by the Toffees and the Saints, with the Sun reporting two English clubs are prepared to make offers for the Australian of around £18m.
Mooy has previously said he is not seeking a move away from Huddersfield, but it remains to be seen whether either of these switches would be tempting to him.
