Football London has reported that Tottenham Hotspur will look to secure a loan for Troy Parrott again this season.
The Republic of Ireland international is one of Spurs’ most exciting young players.
At only 19, he has even been compared to Tottenham hitman Harry Kane, with the player already earning his Premier League debut.
But a very difficult 2020-21 campaign has dampened the enthusiasm and buzz surrounding the young Irishman.
Tottenham sent him to Championship side Millwall for the first half of last season but, after failing to score in any of his 14 games across all competitions, recalled him and loaned the lad to Ipswich Town in League One.
There, Parrott fared a little better by scoring twice, but 18 appearances in England’s third tier still makes it quite a poor return.
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted to Fabio Paratici and new boss Nuno Espirito Santo potentially loaning him out:
Sensible?
Well, yes. A thousand times, yes.
It makes complete sense to loan the player out because as last season proved, he is nowhere near ready.
Parrott might’ve scored a few international goals during the summer but the fact remains that Tottenham are a huge club and failing to cut it as Millwall and Ipswich illustrates that a lot more is needed before you’re ready for the Lilywhites.
That being said, we’re literally still talking about a teenager. Parrott is still so young and failing to live up to the early buzz is more a reflection on how quick people are to tout you for superstardom, more than it’s a reflection on him.
