Bookmakers are already offering odds on the next Leeds United manager.
Leeds United may have only appointed Paul Heckingbottom as their new manager back in February, but some already think that he could be heading for the Elland Road exit door.
Heckingbottom was brought in as Thomas Christiansen’s replacement just two months ago, and was seen as an appointment for the long-term having shown promise during his time as Barnsley manager.
However, Heckingbottom’s time at Elland Road has not gone to plan so far, as Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Preston North End now means that he has won just two of his 12 games in charge of the club, leaving him with a 16.7% win rate.
Many Leeds fans are already calling for Heckingbottom to be given his marching orders at the end of the season, and whilst that would be rash even for Leeds’ standards, Paddy Power are already offering odds on Heckingbottom’s successor.
Their odds show Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst as the early favourite, as he is just 9/2 to be appointed as the next Leeds boss should the Whites move on from Heckingbottom swiftly.
Hurst, 43, has excelled in his 18 months as Shrews boss, as his side are still in with a shout of automatic promotion to the Championship, and will at least be in the League One play-offs after a superb campaign.
Hurst, born in Sheffield and a Rotherham United hero having spent almost his entire career with the Millers, is set for a bright future in management, and Leeds could offer him a return to Yorkshire.
However, some fans would surely question the logic in firing one young manager with potential in order to hire another with a similar profile, and owner Andrea Radrizzani must get the decision right this summer as Leeds cannot afford to keep chopping and changing managers.
