Everton have been listed just behind Newcastle United in the running to sign former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

Bookmaker SkyBet have listed Everton as the 5/1 third favourites to sign former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero during the summer transfer window.

The 35-year-old is a free agent following the end of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and it would hardly be a surprise if he had a number of offers this summer given that his form was fairly impressive during his time with the Citizens.

The Times recently reported that Newcastle United were admirers of the Argentinian and were considering making a move for the stopper ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly therefore, SkyBet have listed the Magpies as the 5/2 second favourites for his signature, just behind current champions Chelsea, who have been listed at 2/1.

But it is perhaps slightly more of a surprise to see Everton listed as seemingly fairly possible candidates to sign Caballero, with the Toffees placed as the 5/1 third favourites to complete a move.

With neither of Ronald Koeman’s current senior stoppers really stamping their authority on the number one position at Goodison Park, it is perhaps not difficult to see why Everton would want another goalkeeper.

The Liverpool Echo recently suggested that Jordan Pickford was on their radar but Everton’s valuation was significantly different to Sunderland’s, so perhaps that offers the slightest hint that signing Caballero on a free transfer would appeal to Koeman.
