Bookmaker lists Celtic as favourites and Rangers as contenders to sign Scotland international

Celtic and Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers could be set to go head to head for the midfielder’s signature if the betting is anything to go by.

Bookmaker BetVictor has listed Celtic as the 7/2 favourites to sign Hibernian midfielder John McGinn during the summer transfer window, while Old Firm rivals Rangers are the second favourites to land his signature.

McGinn has enjoyed an excellent season with Neil Lennon’s side, scoring four and contributing four assists in the league to put Hibs well on course to secure promotion back to the Scottish Premiership.

His form at Easter Road has seen move onto Gordon Strachan’s radar, with the midfielder now boasting three caps for the Scotland national team after only some brief spells with the youth sides.

The 22-year-old is seemingly set for an Old Firm move, according to BetVictor anyway, with the Hoops leading the race while Rangers are not far behind at 5/1. Meanwhile, Aberdeen have been listed as 8/1 outsiders to sign McGinn during the upcoming window.

McGinn will certainly be a player that the Gers know well, having been a part of the Hibs side that tried to challenge them for the Championship title last season. While Rangers won that battle comfortably, Hibernian got a little retribution by winning the Scottish Cup in dramatic fashion against Mark Warburton’s side.

And with Pedro Caixinha likely to make changes to his squad over the summer, it may not be a surprise to see him look at the likes of McGinn when he considers potential targets given that he appears to have plenty of potential.

Meanwhile however, the fact that McGinn is working with former Celtic player and manager Lennon may work in the Bhoys’ favour if they want to sign the former St Mirren man as he will surely be able to sell the Parkhead move to the youngster.

And with McGinn’s grandfather being a former Celtic chairman, it may not be a surprise if some of his family are keen to see him join Brendan Rodgers’ side if the opportunity presents itself.
