Tottenham Hotspur are the clear favourites to sign Luke Shaw despite the defender being heavily linked with Newcastle United in recent times.

Shaw has endured a turbulent time at Old Trafford since his £27 million move (via BBC Sport), seemingly struggling to win Jose Mourinho round. The Sun reported earlier this month that he was keen to leave the Red Devils and it seemed highly likely that a move during next month’s window would take place.

But while The Sun and the Daily Star have both suggested this month that Newcastle are keen on signing the left-back, Sky Bet appear to give the Magpies little chance right now of landing the Englishman.
Rafa Benitez’s men are second favourites with the bookmaker, but find themselves at 7/1 to sign the former Southampton man before the end of the next window.
Instead, it is Tottenham who lead the way by some distance. Sky Bet list Mauricio Pochettino’s men at 5/4 to sign Shaw from United, so there is certainly a hint that they could be interested in making a move for the player that they were 11/2 to sign with the same bookmaker back in October.

The Daily Mirror recently reported that Danny Rose is likely to leave Spurs next month for Manchester United, so perhaps his future could have an impact on whether those odds shorten further, especially as it would seemingly make sense for the players to essentially swap places if one leaves for the other club.
Meanwhile, while Newcastle appear to be on the periphery of contention right now, perhaps it would not be out of the question to suggest that the bookmaker will start to consider them as a more serious player in the race should the situation surrounding the takeover at St James’ Park and what it may mean for potential January transfers become a lot clearer in the near future.
