Huddersfield Town and West Ham United still lead the race for the Arsenal man, according to the bookies, but Newcastle United’s odds have tumbled.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have slashed the odds on the Magpies signing Gunners star Jack Wilshere this summer.

The 25-year-old has endured a torrid few years, with injury problems continuing to hamper his development, and has made just 32 Premier League starts over the past three seasons.

He did make 22 league starts during his loan spell with Bournemouth last term, however – the most since the 2010/11 Premier League campaign.

With so many central midfield options available to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Wilshere’s future at the Emirates seems uncertain to say the least.

If he remains injury free, however, he could prove to be a fantastic signing for whichever club wins the race to obtain his signature, if he does in fact leave the Gunners.

And whilst SkyBET believe his next destination will most likely be Huddersfield Town (2/1) or West Ham United (3/1), they have drastically slashed the odds on Newcastle signing the England international, cutting them into 8/1 from as long as 25/1.

Wilshere would be ideal for the Toon, and could form a superb central midfield partnership with Jonjo Shelvey. The manner in which he carries the ball from deep would be a huge asset to Rafa Benitez’ side, and would undoubtedly improve the fluidity of their transition from defence to attack.

The 25-year-old’s deal at the Emirates is due to expire in June 2018, so Arsenal might very well be tempted to sell him this summer, rather than lose him for nothing next year.

And if Newcastle manage to bring him to St James’ Park, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance.
