The Hibernian player’s name may be familiar to those of a Sheffield United persuasion.

Sheffield United are now 8/1 to sign Hibernian midfielder John McGinn with bookmaker Bet Victor.

The Championship side are now among the main contenders to land the Scotland international this summer, after Celtic (2/1), Sunderland (3/1) and Ipswich Town (4/1), and alongside Rangers.

Sheffield United fans may be familiar with McGinn’s name, with the Blades having offered St Mirren £100,000 to sign him three years ago, according to The Star, while his older brother Stephen spent two years at Bramall Lane.

Manager Chris Wilder is still said to be pursuing a deal for Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard, despite adding John Lundstram earlier in the week.

But with the Shrimpers continuing to block any Sheffield United approaches, Hibernian’s McGinn is someone who could perhaps come into consideration.

The left-footed 22-year-old was promoted back to the Scottish Premiership with Neil Lennon’s side last season, but earned all three of his international caps while playing outside the top flight.

Whether there’s anything in the recent change in the market, however, remains to be seen.
