Newcastle United are top of the Championship with 34 points.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes are offering odds of 9/1 for Newcastle United to break the record for the amount of points won in a Championship season.

The most points won currently stands at 106, which was recorded by Reading in the 2005/06 season, and the bookies are offering relatively lengthy odds on the Magpies winning 107 points or more come May.

After 15 games, Rafael Benitez’s side have 34 points to their name, meaning they would need another 73 points over the remaining 31 games.

During their last stint in the Championship, Newcastle won 102 points as they coasted back to the Premier League, and their side looks even better this time around with Benitez looking to guide the Magpies back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

They have been in scintillating form over the past two months, and have won their past seven matches in league and cup. While breaking Reading’s record will certainly be tough, Newcastle look unbeatable right now with their incredible attacking options and ruthless defence.

At 9/1, it seems a good price for those that have faith in Newcastle continuing this impressive form throughout the season and romping home to the Championship title in emphatic fashion, picking up at least another 73 points in the process.
