The Middlesbrough midfielder has previously expressed a belief he could one day play for “a club like Everton”, but West Ham United move could be more likely.

Bookmakers Bet Victor make West Ham United 6/1 third favourites to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Marten de Roon this summer.

De Roon is being tipped to leave the Riverside less than a year since he arrived from Atalanta in a £12.75 million deal (Transfermarkt), with Boro 19th in the Premier League table and six points adrift of safety.

Southampton, Bournemouth and Watford were all linked with moves the Sunday People this week, although of those only the Hornets (25/1) are listed as candidates with Bet Victor.

And latest odds suggest that a move to West Ham is far more likely for the Dutchman, with top flight rivals Stoke City (8/1) also listed as contenders.

But the pair, it seems, could face a battle for his signature, given that the odds of both Everton (2/1) and Napoli (4/1) are significantly shorter.

In quotes published by the Sun in February, De Roon expressed a belief that he could one day play for “a club like Everton” when he eventually leaves Middlesbrough, although the Toffees recently strengthened their midfield with the £20 million signing of Morgan Schneiderlin.

And given the alleged interest in Pedro Obiang from Liverpool (the Sun), along with Mark Noble’s dip in form, West Ham are perhaps a more realistic bet for the midfielder who has scored four goals 30 games in English football.

Where do you think De Roon will end up?
