Could Sunderland be about to lose another boss to international football?

Bookmaker BetVictor have hinted that Sunderland could perhaps lose another boss to the international game after they listed David Moyes as the third favourite to succeed Scotland coach Gordon Strachan.

The Scottish Sun reports that following the country’s poor performance in the recent international break – they drew at home to Lithuania before being soundly beaten by Slovakia on Tuesday night – Strachan is coming under increasing pressure.

Should the SFA decide to make a change before the team concede more ground in their World Cup qualifying group, the next appointment will be vital.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, former Celtic and Scotland midfielder Paul Lambert is the current front-runner for the position. The former Norwich boss is currently unemployed having left Blackburn at the end of last season, and has been listed at 3/1.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is only just behind Lambert in the running, having been listed at 4/1, according to BetVictor.

But it is the name below the pair that will be of interest to Black Cats fans as BetVictor list Moyes at 8/1 to succeed Strachan.

If Moyes was to ultimately get the job – of course, this is dependant on Strachan leaving the post – then he would become the second Sunderland boss in a matter of months to leave the Stadium of Light for an international job following Sam Allardyce’s appointment as Roy Hodgson’s successor in the summer.

However, it perhaps would not be a huge surprise if Moyes’ departure was met with a slightly more positive response than Allardyce’s was just a few months ago.

Big Sam became the latest boss to pull off the great escape with the club, while Moyes’ side sit at the bottom of the Premier League table having won none of their opening seven games.

Though the former Everton boss was not given a huge amount of time to make changes in the summer, the signs look ominous enough that some supporters may be hoping that he does end up leaving for Hampden Park.
