Manchester City are now favourites to sign the Middlesbrough man, ahead of West Bromwich Albion and Southampton.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have installed the Citizens as new favourites in the race to sign Boro centre-back Ben Gibson, ahead of the Baggies and the Saints.

The 24-year-old was superb for Middlesbrough last season, and despite his side’s ultimate relegation to the Championship, he was part of a defence that conceded the fewest goals in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Standing at 6ft 1in, Gibson is strong in the air, but is also quick along the ground. He is a wonderful reader of the game, and has the rare ability to anticipate danger before it materialises. All of those attributes make him a fantastic all-round defender, and he will be a magnificent signing for whichever club is lucky enough to acquire his services.

And SkyBET believe that his future could very well lie away from the Riverside, listing Man City as 3/1 favourites, ahead of West Brom and Southampton at 4/1.

Quite where Gibson will end up remains to be seen, but at this stage of his career, regular first-team football will be an absolute must, if he is to develop into the player that everyone knows he has the potential to become.

So a move to either West Brom or Southampton seems more likely at the moment, despite the bookies favouring City.
