The Chelsea defender may favour a move to Liverpool in order to secure regular first-team football.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes have made Liverpool 7/2 favourites to sign Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill in January.
The 30-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Blues this season but only 12 of those have been in the Premier League and he has been an unused substitute for the last three matches.
With Euro 2016 fast approaching, Cahill will know he needs to be playing regularly as he bids to ensure he makes it into Roy Hodgson’s squad, and while Chelsea will know the importance of having strength in depth it is clear he is not currently in Guus Hiddink’s starting plans.
Interestingly, Liverpool’s fierce rivals Everton are second favourites to sign the centre-back, with both Merseyside clubs having plenty of problems at the back this season.
There is little doubt Cahill would improve Liverpool’s back-line and it could prove to be a master-stroke by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp if he does bid for the former Bolton Wanderers player.
Manchester United are joint second favourites with Everton and if Cahill was made available there would be no shortage of interest given his undeniable talent.
