Liverpool have been linked with a move for the defender, who could fit the criteria sought by Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

Everton’s city rivals have been linked with a move for Howedes as an alternative to Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, and are 2/1 frontrunners with the bookies.
But by his own admission, Everton boss Ronald Koeman is also in the market for ‘left-sided defender’, and the Toffees have been placed at 7/2 for the German’s signature.

Howedes has spent his entire career at Schalke, where he is under contract until 2020, but could be tempted by a move to Liverpool or Everton after the Bundesliga giants’ disappointing 10th-placed finish last term.
And although right-footed, the World Cup winner could fit the criteria sought by Koeman in particular, having played in both full-back positions and as a defensive midfielder beforehand.

Everton are without centre-back Ramiro Funes Mori for much of the campaign, and have only Luke Garbutt as cover for Leighton Baines on the left after loaning Brendan Galloway to Sunderland.
