Could Robbie Keane return to Celtic seven years on from his loan spell in Glasgow? The bookies certainly think so.

Keane announced on Thursday his departure from Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy, where he has spent the past five-and-a-half campaigns.

And Sky Bet have installed the Bhoys as 6-1 second favourites – joint with any Australian A-League club – to sign the Irishman before 3 September 2017.

Keane spent the latter half of the 2009-10 campaign on loan at Celtic Park from Tottenham Hotspur, scoring an incredible 16 goals in 19 games in all competitions.

Despite turning 36 in the summer, Keane’s 12 goals in 23 Galaxy games this calendar year suggests he still has something to offer at a reasonable level.

Celtic, however, are particularly strong in attack, with Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths scoring 25 goals between them this season.

That said, Dembele has reportedly attracted interest from other clubs, despite only arriving in Glasgow in the summer, and Keane could prove a useful short-term solution if the Frenchman departs.

Dublin side Shamrock Rovers are the 8/11 favourites to sign Keane – a boyhood Celtic fan.
