Bookmakers Bet Victor make Brighton & Hove Albion 8/1 joint-third favourites to sign Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa in January.

Ulloa, who moved to Leicester from Brighton in 2014, has seen his first team opportunities limited by the summer arrival of Islam Slimani, for whom the Foxes a club-record £28 million.

Earlier this week, the Telegraph reported that the Premier League champions are ‘open-minded’ about Ulloa’s departure, and are seeking in excess of £10 million for the Argentine.

So could a return to the Amex be on the cards this winter?

Arguably, with Glenn Murray scoring nine goals in 16 games since his own return to Sussex, Brighton don’t need him – although a signing of his calibre would all-but seal the Seagulls’ promotion to the Premier League.

Saying that, Murray’s future is uncertain beyond the end of his season-long loan from Bournemouth and, at 33, he is not getting any younger.

A summer move for Ulloa seems somewhat more realistic, therefore, especially if Chris Hughton’s side complete their march towards the top flight.

The risk is, however, that Ulloa could go elsewhere in the New Year. Sunderland have long been linked with the 30-year-old, and Swansea City are also said to be keen, although the player will perhaps have concerns about joining either in their current state.
