Could Arsenal and Newcastle United make moves for the Stoke City winger this winter?

Arsenal are one bookmaker’s favourites to sign Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri in January – ahead of Newcastle United.
Bet Victor has opened a market on Shaqiri’s next club after the Mirror reported on Monday that the three-goal five-assist winger is ‘on the radar of bigger Premier League teams’ this winter.
And though Stoke boss Mark Hughes has insisted that any offers will not be entertained, the bookmaker seems to think a move could happen.

At 4/1, Arsenal are early front-runners for Shaqiri’s signature, with 6/1 Newcastle and 8/1 trio, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool also deemed contenders.
Arsenal may be looking to strengthen in the Swiss’ position, amid uncertainty over the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – both of whom are out of contract at the end of this season.

However, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is adamant the pair will not be leaving the Emirates Stadium early.
Newcastle’s chances of landing Shaqiri appear slim at this stage, after their boss Rafa Benitez claimed on Monday that his side’s budget was among the Premier League’s lowest this summer.
However, the Magpies would be in a better position to do business if a proposed takeover of the club goes through.
