Bookmaker Bet Victor has cut odds on Britt Assombalonga joining Burnley this summer.

Having been linked with a move for the Nottingham Forest striker last week, Middlesbrough were immediately installed as 2/1 favourites for Assombalonga’s signature.

But Burnley – whose manager Sean Dyche worked with the 24-year-old at Watford – are breathing down their necks at 4/1 now, having leapfrogged both Sunderland [14/1] and Wolverhampton Wanderers [6/1] on the list of likely destinations.

With top scorer Andre Gray again linked with a move to Everton on Friday, Burnley could be in need of a goalscorer such as Assombalonga, who scored 14 goals from 20 league starts for Forest last season.

And Forest, who tied the Congolese to a new five-year deal last summer, may be more inclined to part with their star man having already signed Hibernian’s Jason Cummings this month.

Norwich are said to have bid £7 million for Assombalonga before he signed his new deal, so it is unlikely the player would come cheap.
