Aston Villa fans aren’t a happy bunch on Twitter after rumours emerged that Brighton defender Ben White is set to get called up by England ahead of Ezri Konsa.
The Athletic reports White has been named in England’s provisional squad for Euro 2020, with no sign of a call-up for Villa’s 2019 summer signing.
Gareth Southgate is set to name his squad for the upcoming Euros, which will be a larger squad than usual, before it’s trimmed down a made final later on this month.
Both White and Konsa have had outstanding campaigns for their respective clubs this season, with the latter also playing in midfield and in a back three.
Whenever England squads are announced for major tournaments, it’s always going to cause a stir, more so from those who aren’t selected.
And the same will happen in this case, especially at right-back where England have the most depth in quality.
Does Konsa deserve a call? One million per cent! He has had an incredible campaign for a Villa team that kept 15 clean sheets this season.
Many Villa fans would even state that Konsa has outperformed Tyrone Mings this term, who is expected to get a call, so maybe Konsa should be picked ahead of his club teammate instead?
Either way, White deserves his call because of how well he reads the game, how comfortable he is on the ball, ability to play in a back three and in the middle of the park.
But it hasn’t pleased the Villa Park faithful that White might now potentially be picked ahead of their own player.
Here is a selection of Villa supporters reacting to those White claims:
