Patrick Bamford has admitted to LUTV that it’s ‘bonkers’ to hear Premier League stars rave about Leeds United this season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side showed how good they are in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City before the international break.
Leeds boasted more possession than Pep Guardiola’s charges on that night, earning 52.1 percent of the ball, and also fashioned more goalscoring chances – three versus zero.
City defender Kyle Walker raved about the Whites’ performance in a midweek podcast with Andros Townsend, likening the hosts’ style of play to a basketball team.
Here’s what Bamford – a £10 million signing in 2018 – said in response to those comments: “Our game is more like basketball. Everyone’s gameplan goes out the window because we pull them everywhere. I listened to Kyle Walker and he was saying it’s like basketball. It’s kind of flattering when you think of it like that. It is bonkers!”
Leeds, who have won two, drawn one and lost one of their first four Premier League games, are eighth in the table.
Even that one defeat was away to Liverpool, who needed a late Mo Salah penalty to see off Bielsa’s troops and seal a 4-3 win.
United were considered dark horses before a ball was kicked this season, given their high-profile coach, but it’s obvious now that Bielsa has them playing some serious football.
