Rangers turned in a poor performance on Sunday afternoon, drawing 1-1 away at Hamilton Academical in a forgettable display.

Brian Easton’s own goal put Rangers in front, but Ross Callachan rescued a point for the hosts, leaving Steven Gerrard to curse some of his changes.

Gerrard handed rare starts to Bongani Zungu and Cedric Itten, but neither particularly impressed as Rangers lacked characters.

Itten may at least have a role as a super sub striker; he has impressed when used in that way, and his lack of impact as a starter could see him return to the bench.

For Zungu though, it’s hard to see how he gets another start soon, or how he is even a Rangers player next season.

The 28-year-old is on loan from Amiens with a view to a £2.7million permanent deal, having arrived on deadline day back in October.

Zungu has only managed 209 minutes of league action for Rangers, with only four appearances in other competitions in what has been a disappointing loan spell.

Zungu hasn’t shown nearly enough to prove that he is worth the £2.7million fee, and Rangers may have already landed his replacement.

The Gers have secured a pre-contract agreement with Bournemouth midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh, meaning he will join the likes of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack in the midfield pecking order.

Ofoborh is coming for free, immediately making him more appealing than Zungu, and that news – coupled with Sunday’s display – means Zungu will surely move on this summer.
