South Africa international Bongani Zunga has ‘liked’ a tweet linking him with a move to Sheffield Wednesday.
On Thursday, Portuguese outlet A Bola reported that the Owls are ‘well-placed’ to sign Zungu – a midfielder with Vitoria de Guimaraes – this summer.
The news was then shared by South African football reporter Joe Crann and spotted by the player himself, as seen below.

Zungu then proceeded to ‘like’ several other tweets hinting at his arrival in Sheffield 6, including one from a supporter who claimed that the 24-year-old had replied to him on Snapchat.
According to A Bola, Vitoria will accept offers of around €3.5 million [£3.06 million] for Zungu, who is also said to be interesting Benfica and Porto after an impressive maiden campaign in European football.
Wednesday, whose head coach Carlos Carvalhal is Portuguese, are known to be looking to strengthen in Zungu’s position – although, as Soccer Laduma points out, a move to England could be difficult for the South Africa international.

The website states: “Given South Africa’s placing outside of FIFA’s top 50, Zungu is unlikely to receive a work permit for the UK and therefore, a move to England would be extremely difficult – although not impossible – at this stage in his career.”
Wednesday have signed a number of players from Portugal’s top flight in recent years, with Lucas Joao, Marco Matias and Vincent Sasso among the most notable imports.
However, the Owls’ assistant coach Lee Bullen has hinted via The Star that this summer’s recruits will be predominantly British based.
