With Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong struggling to make a mark in the Championship last season, the pressure is on him to deliver during his Bolton Wanderers loan.

Adam Armstrong starred in League One in the 2015-16 season, scoring 20 goals for Coventry City, but it was not all quite such plain sailing last term.

The Newcastle United youngster headed out on loan again, this time to the Championship and Barnsley, and failed to replicate his earlier goal threat.

Competition from Sam Winnall in the first part of the season contributed to Armstrong’s struggles and he will now hope for a more successful campaign with Bolton Wanderers.

However, the England youth international could again find himself struggling for game time if reports regarding Bolton’s transfer activity are anything to go by.

With Gary Madine already on the books, the Bolton News report that the Trotters are looking to cut deals for experienced pair Aaron Wilbraham and Julio Baptista.

Neither even slightly resemble Armstrong’s style of play, but the 20-year-old must still be worrying that he faces another season spent on the periphery.

If he is to have a career at the top level with Newcastle, Armstrong must succeed in the coming campaign and prove that he is ready to continue his progress; that may require the Geordie striker to see off a number of veteran stars.
