League One outfit Charlton Athletic reportedly want former West Ham United youngster Sean Maguire – bold Bolton Wanderers need a goalscorer.

Could it be second time lucky for Sean Maguire? After being signed and then released by West Ham United within 18 months, the 22-year-old striker was forced to drop out of the English game altogether.

However, after rediscovering his golden touch in his native Republic of Ireland, Maguire appears to have earned another chance to prove his worth across the sea. The Irish Sun report that Charlton Athletic are leading the chase for Maguire after he top scored in the League of Ireland last season with 29 goals for Cork City.

Karl Robinson’s Addicks are among the least productive sides in League One, netting just 49 goals in 41 games to slide into mid-table. And two of their top four goalscorers this season, Nicky Ajose and Ademola Lookman, departed the club midway through the campaign. They clearly could do with reinforcements up front.

However, news that Maguire, who did not make a single appearance for West Ham, could be available should be of interest to League One rivals Bolton Wanderers.

Phil Parkinson’s side are seven points clear of Fleetwood Town in the final automatic promotion position but they are hardly the most prolific of sides. Midfielder Josh Vela is their top scorer with nine goals while regular frontman Gary Madine (below) has eight in 38 games.

Wily poacher Adam Le Fondre may have enjoyed a strong recent run but he is only on loan from Wigan Athletic and will depart at the end of the season as things stand.

Furthermore, with Bolton hardly flushed for funds (they were only rescued from administration in November), money is very much an object. Therefore, with The Irish Sun reporting that Maguire could sign for little more than £200,000, he is certainly worth the risk.
