Bolton Wanderers lost 4-0 at home to Norwich City at the weekend.
Bolton Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson believes Norwich City are an outstanding side who displayed Premier League level quality in moments during their encounter at the weekend, Bolton News report.
“We’ll look at things we could have done better but we did come up against an outstanding team, players who were in the Bundesliga the last couple of years,” Parkinson explained.
“I won’t just be saying ‘wow lads they were good, we’ll move on, let’s forget it’ [in the upcoming team meeting]. But equally, the goals we conceded were top class finishes. The reverse pass from Teemu Pukki for the second goal was right out of the top end of the Premiership.”
Norwich returned to the top of the Championship following their 3-1 defeat at Preston North End last week as they crushed a Bolton side who were incapable of matching the visitors’ energy and movement.
The Canaries have displayed some excellent football at times this season but against Bolton they arguably put in their most dominant performance of the season yet, with the 4-0 score-line flattering the hosts.
Over the past seven years, Norwich have twice been promoted and later suffered relegation to the Championship having failed to establish themselves in the Premier League.
The current set of players, however, are young, improving on a weekly basis and clearly dedicated to manager Daniel Farke’s way of playing. With so much potential, this could be their best chance yet of going up and making a proper fist of it in the top-flight with Parkinson’s comments suggesting the ability is already there.
Norwich’s first task, however, will be fending off the likes of Sheffield United and Leeds United in the race for automatic promotion, with just a couple of points separating the trio at the summit of the Championship table.
A failure to achieve a return to the Premier League could leave the Canaries in a precarious position with Farke’s contract expiring this summer and youngsters Max Aarons (The Sun) and Ben Godfrey (Mirror) reportedly attracting interest from elsewhere.
